Tamil Nadu Agricultural University community radio commences farm broadcast

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) community radio station here has commenced farm broadcast.

According to a TNAU press released issued today the community radio is an effective ICT tool and people-friendly, socially committed and professionally managed transfer of technology mechanism.

Rural-centric programmes are preferred through the Community Radio Station which has been named as "Velaan Palkalaikkazhaga Vivasayee FM". Listeners can tune in to 107.4 MHz for exclusive farm related information. The coverage area of the broadcast is upto 18 km radius benefiting approximately 10,000 farm families in 22 villages, besides general public. The broadcast is made during 1030 hrs to 1300 hrs every day.

Vivasayee FM will enable to reach all members of the community in the local language and as a local grassroot media, it maximizes the potential for sharing information, knowledge and skills.

This creative medium will focus on topics relating to agriculture, health, environment, education and community development. Latest farm technologies, market price of commodities and weather forecasts will be broadcasted regularly. Besides, farmers experiences and success stories, services of NGOs, and other educational programmes will also be part of the broadcast.

Progressive farmers can share their experiences through the FM radio that would encourage fellow farmers, the release added.
